Cuban Two-spotted Prepona
Previously known as: Archaeoprepona demophoon until A. crassina was split and given endemic status (Nunez at al., 2023).
Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 90-104mm. Sexes similar but females slightly larger. Its large size and blue spots on the upperwings are diagnostic.
Range: Endemic to Cuba.
Status: Widespread but not common. This is a forest species and we have observed males hill-topping at 950m in the Sierra Maestra, patrolling rides and road edges where males sit on high branches or prominent leaves facing downwards and being very territorial.
Nectar Plants: Feeds at fruit and not known to be attracted to nectar.
Larval Foodplants: Unknown but thought to be Inga sp. (Fabaceae > Caesalpinioideae).
