Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 16-25mm. Sexes similar though males are smaller and more brightly coloured. Small in size and with transverse rows of orange spots on a dark background is unmistakable. It usually flies close to the ground and settles on the ground or low plants and sticks.
Range: Regional endemic found only in the West Indies on Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, Montserrat, St Christopher and St Kitts.
Status: The subspecies anacaona is endemic to Cuba where it is widespread but local.
Nectar Plants: Cordia sp.
Larval Foodplants: Unknown.
