Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 44-60mm. Sexes similar. Previously known as Astraptes talus. Only Emerald Aguna Aguna claxon has a similar emerald green colour but that species has a broad white bar crossing the underside of the hindwing.
Range: From Mexico to Argentina but strays have also been recorded in southern USA. Also found in the Greater and Lesser Antilles.
Status: In Cuba it is widely but thinly distributed and rarely seen. In the past it was said to have been a pest of bean crops.
Nectar Plants: Bourreria ovata, Ageratum, Chromolaena odorata, Bidens pilosa etc.
Larval Foodplants: Various species of bean (legume) including Guaria trachilioides, Canavalia ensiformis and Mucuna pruriens.
