Lastra's Calisto
Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 37-44mm. C. lastrai has three white sub-terminal dots on the hindwing with the central one larger and slightly displaced towards the post-discal line. The red patch on the forewing is distinctly pointed on its outer edge, a feature shared only with C. brochei, C. occulta and C. muripetens. Differs also from Broche's Calisto C. brochei by lacking the outer sub-terminal white dot on the hindwing.
Range: Endemic to Cuba. Found amongst xeromorphic thickets on serpentinite near Moa in the foothills of the NSB massif. It is sympatric with C. occulta and C. bruneri and C. herophile but should be separated from these, other than C. herophile, on habitat alone as the others are forest species.
Status: Newly described species in 2019.
Nectar Plants: Unknown.
Larval Foodplants: Unknown.
