Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 41-53mm. The larger size and much darker overall appearance of this species with a dark chestnut colouring to the base of the wing and a rufous spot in the anal angle distinguish this species from C. herophile in the Sierra Maestra which is its only known location.
Range: Endemic to Cuba.
Status: Found only above 800m in the Sierra Maestra mountains in the SE where only this and C. herophile occur. Their altitudinal ranges overlap between 800-1100m.
Nectar Plants: Bourreria laevis, Palicourea alpina, Pavonia fruticosa, Mikania micrantha, Stachytarpheta cayennensis.
Larval Foodplants: Ichnanthus mayarensis which is a medium-sized annual grass which is endemic to Cuba.
