Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 38-44mm. A rather nondescript dark brown skipper. Male has a distinctive black androconial patch or sex brand on the forewing. These scent scales are used to disseminate pheromones during courtship and are not present on females. Females are similar but have two white spots on the upper and under-forewing.
Range: Endemic to the West Indies. Found only on Jamaica, Cuba, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico.
Status: The subspecies singularis is endemic to Cuba. Rather rare in Cuba on roadsides and grassy woodland tracks.
Nectar Plants: Tournefortia hirsutissima, Stachytarpheta jamaicensis, Bidens pilosa, Lantana, Croton, Sida, Cordia.
Larval Foodplants: Uniola virgata and other grasses.
