Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 70-106mm. The combination of black wings with an iridescent blue band and red on the hindwings is diagnostic. It is not a fast flier and can be found roosting communally in dark spots during the heat of the day.
Range: Endemic to Cuba.
Status: Found mainly in the mountains at the east end of the island and also near Viñales in the west.
Nectar Plants: Abarema maestrense, Lantana camara, Verbena rigida and many others but also drinks from puddles on the ground.
Larval Foodplants: Aristolochia sp.
