Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 74-86mm. Sexes similar. Although clearly a Hamadryas the blue colouration and broad white bar on the forewings distinguishes it immediately from the other two Hamadryas candidates. In addition the orange under-hindwing is very distinctive.
Range: Found from Mexico south to Peru and Bolivia.
Status: A rare straggler to western Cuba, and thought to originate from Yucatán, Mexico.
Nectar Plants: Feeds mainly on rotten fruit.
Larval Foodplants: Unknown in Cuba but on the mainland the foodplant is Dalechampia (Euphorbiaceae).
