Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 58-76mm. Sexually dimorphic with the females having rather darker markings. Upperside of male is unmarked orange whilst females have red spots around the edges of both wings. Difficult to be certain of id in flight as it is similar to some other Phoebis species. The darker line on the underside of the forewing is diagnostic.
Range: Southern USA to Brazil and throughout the Greater Antilles.
Status: Widespread and common in Cuba.
Nectar Plants: Ixora, Lantana, Stachytarpheta jamaicensis, Tournefortia, Cassia, Pithecellobium, Poinciana and also on muddy puddles.
Larval Foodplants: Inga vera, Cassia sp, Pithecellobium.
