Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 29-32mm. The wings are very dark brown above with a with a chestnut edging along the costa. There are three small sub-apical white spots and two larger ones in the middle of the wing. When the white scales come off with wear the spots became transparent. This species is very similar to Eufala Skipper Lerodea eufala from which it can be told by the longer antennae - over 50% of the length of the costal margin in tripunctus and 40% or less in L. eufala. The latter species also appears paler especially on the underside and has paler fringes to the wings.
Range: The range extends from Southern USA and Florida to Brazil and Paraguay. It is also found in the Bahamas, Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Trinidad.
Status: Widespread in Cuba in grassy areas and gardens in m any habitats.
Nectar Plants: Stachytarpheta jamaicensis, Ageratum conyzoides, Antigonon leptopus, Chromolaena odorata.
Larval Foodplants: Grasses including Panicum maximum and Saccharum officinarum.
