Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 54-70mm. Sexes similar. The unique and distinctive pattern of black, red and white is unlike any other Cuban species.
Range: Found throughout Central and North America and is a known migrant.
Status: It is rare in Cuba and perhaps most if not all are migrants from the mainland though Hernández considered that there may be some resident populations in the Escambray mountains.
Nectar Plants: Feeds on rotten fruit and the nectar of flowers.
Larval Foodplants: Unknown in Cuba.
