Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 54-64mm. Sexes similar. Previously known as Astraptes xagua. Resembles Frosty Flasher Telegonus habana but it lacks the white trailing edge on the hindwing. Some individuals have white spots or a short white bar starting at the costa on the underside of the forewing. On the Hispaniola individuals this bar is longer and distinguishes the subspecies christyi.
Range: Endemic to the West Indies being found only on Cuba, South Andros (Bahamas) and Hispaniola. The subspecies xagua is found on Cuba and South Andros while ssp. christyi is found on Hispaniola.
Status: Widespread but thinly distributed and commonest in the forests of the east of the island.
Nectar Plants: Melochia tomentosa, Chromolaena odorata, Stachytarpheta, Tournefortia and Coffea.
Larval Foodplants: Senna atomaria.
