Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 30-38mm. Sexually dimorphic with males being orange with two separate central brown marks and a jagged brown edging on the forewing. Female Radians Skipper Choranthes radians is similar. Female phyleus are dark brown above with orange spots and dashes.
Range: Found from Canada in the north to Argentina in the south and throughout the Caribbean islands.
Status: On Cuba it is widespread and common in grassy open areas including gardens and road verges.
Nectar Plants: Borreria laevis, Bidens pilosa, Stachytarpheta jamaicensis, Stachytarpheta cayennensis, Lantana and Acacia farnesiana.
Larval Foodplants: Grasses of various species.
