Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 40-64mm. Sexually dimorphic. Males are white above with an orange-yellow base to the forewing, and the hindwing sometimes has a black bar perpendicular to the costa but this is often absent. Females are white above with grey forewing tips. Undersides are whitish or pale greenish-yellow with a yellow base to the forewing. K. lyside can easily be confused with the Cuban Sulphur K. cabrerai but the latter is slightly larger and both sexes have smaller yellow patches at the base of the upper and under forewings and underside hindwings with a distinctive mottled appearance. The uppersides are white with the males having the same black bar on the upper hindwing .
Range: Southern USA south to Venezuela including Central America and many of the Caribbean islands.
Status: Restricted to dry seashores where it is occasionally seen in numbers.
Nectar Plants: Stachytarpheta, Tournefortia, Antigonon, Lantana, Melochia, Bidens, Avicennia.
Larval Foodplants: Guaiacum officinale.
