Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 116-143mm. This is the only sexually dimorphic Swallowtail in Cuba. Males are largely yellow with a sub-terminal row of black, red and blue spots on the underside of the hindwings. The upperwings have a very broad band of yellow which covers most of the area of the hindwing. Females are black with a pale blue area on the hindwing and at a distance care should be taken to distinguish these from De Villiers' Swallowtail Battus devilliers.
Range: Widespread from Southern USA to Argentina and many of the Caribbean islands.
Status: Widespread in the forested areas of Cuba.
Nectar Plants: Verbena rigida, Lantana Cordia, Solanum, Tournefortia hirsutissima.
Larval Foodplants: Larvae have been found on Citrus limon and Citrus sinensis (Rutaceae).
