Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 60-70mm. Sexes similar but in females the wings are all dark above (largely sandy-coloured in males) with just two tiny white dots near the costa but the underside with its purplish colour and white bar crossing just half the hindwing (sometimes reduced to a few white spots) is diagnostic.
Range: Endemic to Cuba.
Status: Found in forest and forest rides mainly at the far east of the island but also found in Holguin, Habana, Sancti Spiritus and Pinar del Rio provinces and the Isla de Juventud.
Nectar Plants: Lantana, Stachytarpheta, Pachyrhisus erosus and Tournefortia.
Larval Foodplants: Andira inermis Cabbage Tree (Fabaceae) and Dalbergia ecastaphyllum.
