Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 56-60mm. Sexually dimorphic. Females have a broader black border above and sometimes have a pale form which lacks any orange.
Range: In North America it is found as far south as Mexico.
Status: A rare straggler to Cuba where there has been just one record (a male and female) in Habana province in November 1963 (Alayo and Hernández, 1987) though this was given as November 1968 in Hernández, 2004.
Nectar Plants: Unknown in Cuba though mainly clovers elsewhere,
Larval Foodplants: Unknown in Cuba but mainly clovers and vetches elsewhere.
