Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 36-46mm. Sexes similar though male is slightly smaller. Unmistakable in flight from the size and orange colouration of the upperwings but with just a view of the underside the care needs to be taken to distinguish from the two Dynamine species but L. sida has much larger eyespots than the other two.
Range: Endemic to the West Indies being found on Bahamas, Cuba, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico.
Status: In Cuba it is widespread in gardens, open woodland and swamps though nowhere abundant. The subspecies sida is endemic to Cuba.
Nectar Plants: Lantana, Croton, Ageratum.
Larval Foodplants: Serjania diversifolia (Sapindaceae) and Landolphia myrtifolia (Apocyanaceae).
