Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 40-48mm. Both sexes have a white 'collar' between head and thorax. Females have a rufous tinge along the costa that is lacking in males. They also have three prominent white sub-apical dots and another near the centre of the forewing. There is an obvious white fringe on the tip of the hindwing. Males are darker with some white scaling and with two or three small white sub-apical spots and a small white dash near the tornus of the forewing .
Range: Found in Cuba and the Bahamas with a different subspecies on each. The endemic subspecies braco is found on Cuba.
Status: Widespread but apparently rare in coastal areas though in March 2015 we saw it at four sites near Guardalavaca, Holguin. The subspecies braco is endemic to Cuba.
Nectar Plants: Stachytarpheta jamaicensis. Tournefortia hirsutissima, Bidens pilosa, Pithecellobium and Lantana.
Larval Foodplants: Croton lucidus and Croton glabellus (Euphorbiaceae).
