Bartram's Scrub-Hairstreak
Description and Similar Species: Wingspan 26-28mm. Sexes similar though males have slightly more pointed wings. The only confusion species is Martial Scrub-Hairstreak Strymon martialis but on S. acis the white lines are thicker and bolder and the uppersides lack the blue of S. martialis. On females the upperside of the abdomen is grey while on males it is white. In Jamaica the flight time is said to be June to August (Smith, Miller & Miller). It has a fast and rapid flight but like many Hairstreaks it can be approached closely and remains settled for long periods nectaring on the flowers of the foodplant.
